Every 16th of October is World Food Day. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations was also founded on this day.

World Food Day was first observed in 1981. Throughout the years, the global community has focused on different areas.

This year emphasis will be placed on family farms and the huge role that they play in the battle against hunger. Focus will also be directed toward the management of natural resources and protecting the environment.

As we know, food is the key to the normal physical and psychological development of a person. To get the most out of it however, we need to eat certain amounts and for it to be high quality.

The food products we consume need to charge our body with energy and guarantee a perfect state of health. The amount of vitamins, minerals, proteins, carbohydrates and fats required varies depending on the individual needs of each person.

We should never eat haphazardly and just for pleasure. It is advised to follow a few simple rules. We need to eat fresh fruits, vegetables of all sorts, dairy products, fats (nuts, olive oil, avocado) and whole-grain foods every single day. Experts also recommend staying away from sweets and fast food.

Healthy family

Alcohol, coffee, soda and fruit juices are also not seen in a good light. At the same time, drinking lots of water should be a priority. Exercise is also of huge significance, not just for maintaining healthy weight but also keeping the body in a good overall condition.

World Food Day aims to make people a little more sympathetic of other people's problems and to remind them of the millions who can't afford to feed themselves properly. Statistics have shown that every day about 1 billion people cannot get their required daily dose of healthy food.

Studies show that bad eating habits can lead to numerous problems. Poor quality food is responsible for the deaths of many young people inhabiting developing nations.
