Green Vegetables Fight Depression

Vegetables

Depression is one of the scourges of the 21st century. In the battle against it, pharmaceutical companies constantly pump out new antidepressants.

Pills are not the only eradicators of a bad mood however.

According to experts, people fall into a depression when their body begins to lack in folic acid (vitamin B9).

Folic acid helps to produce serotonin. It is also known as a hormone of happiness. Serotonin is produced in the brain and has a positive effect on a person's emotions. The more serotonin that is found in the body, the happier and more euphoric the person is.

Nothing new so far, but it is as if we tend to forget this fact and fall into the enveloping arms of depression.

Folic acid is not produced by the body, it procures it from the food we consume. In many countries, it is accepted for manufacturers to enrich their products with B9.

For treating depression, British doctors recommend eating food rich in folic acid, along with the traditional therapy with a psychologist.

The richest sources of it are raw green vegetables - salads, spinach, peas, parsley, broccoli. Try to eat 1-2 fresh leafy green vegetables every day.

If you cannot make a salad in the workplace, buy a ready one. Even if you are by yourself, sit down at a nice restaurant and order the greenest possible salad and baked broccoli. If combined with fish, it's an added plus.
