Heat the oil and fry the chopped onion, garlic and pepper. Once braised, add all the spices and fry them some more.

Add the cleaned and washed lentils and exactly 3 1/3 cups (800 ml) of hot water. Peel and mash the tomatoes and throw them in to the lentils. Season with salt and allow to boil until the lentils are ready.
