Ingredients

  • mozzarella - 10.5 oz (300 g), thinly sliced
  • basil - a handful of leaves, fresh
  • olive oil - 1 tablespoon
  • onions - 1 head onion
  • garlic - 2 cloves
  • tomatoes - 15 oz (425 g), canned
  • tomato paste - 1/5 cup (70 g)
  • sugar - 1 tsp
  • oregano - 1 tablespoon, fresh
  • yeast - 1 1/3 tsp (7 g) dry, for dough
  • salt - 1/2 tsp
  • flour - 1 1/2 cups (375 g)
  • water - 1 cup (250 ml) warm
  • olive oil - 1 tablespoon
  • cheese - 7 oz (200 g), grated

How to make

To prepare the dough, dissolve the yeast in warm water and leave it in a warm place for 10 minutes. Sift the flour with the salt, add the effervescent yeast and knead a smooth dough, finally add the olive oil. Knead for 10 minutes and leave the dough to rest for 1 hour in a greased bowl, covered with a cloth.

To prepare the tomato sauce, heat oil and fry the finely diced onion. Add the pressed garlic, canned tomatoes, tomato paste, sugar and fresh oregano. Cook for about 15 minutes uncovered on low heat.

Move the risen dough to a floured surface and divide into 2 pizza crusts. Each crust is spread in a buttered tray, smeared with tomato sauce and covered with mozzarella slices. The pizzas are baked for 15 minutes on high heat.

The last few minutes, sprinkle them with cheese and bake finished. Serve the Napoli pizza with fresh basil leaves.
