Ingredients

  • flour - 2 lb (1 kg)
  • eggs - 5
  • yeast - 3 1/3 tbsp (50 g)
  • milk - 4/5 cup (170 g)
  • lard - 1/5 cup (60 g)
  • oil - 1/3 cup (80 g)
  • sugar - 1 1/5 cups (300 g)
  • salt - 2 tsp (10 g)
  • vanilla
  • lemon essence
  • for the syrup
  • sugar - 1 cup

How to make

The milk is heated with oil and sugar. Remove to cool it off. To the sifted flour, add the other products and effervescent yeast. Knead a soft dough with the melted lard until it starts to whiten. The ready dough is coated with oil. Allow it to rise.

Then cut it into pieces, smear them with oil again. After standing for 10 minutes, twist and weave them together. Put the raw panettones in a tray, coat them with a mixture of egg yolk, a little oil and water. Leave it to rise.

Bake at 340°F (170 °C) until ready. While still warm, smear it with a syrup made from the sugar and water and then immediately sprinkle it with extra sugar.

From these products, you will obtain 2 panettone loaves of 21 oz (600 g).
