"Some celebrate New Year`s with a champagne toast, we on the other hand prefer to mark it with a slice of New Year’s Baklava."

Ingredients

  • phyllo pastry - 1 package
  • butter - 1 package
  • oil - a little
  • for the stuffing
  • walnuts - 1 cup, ground
  • biscuits - 3 1/3 tbsp (50 g), brown, ground
  • cinnamon - 2 tsp
  • sugar - 3 tablespoons
  • for the syrup
  • water - 2 cups
  • sugar - 2 cups
  • vanilla
measures

How to make

Mix the products for the stuffing in a bowl - walnuts, sugar, cinnamon and the ground tea biscuits. Take a sheet of phyllo pastry and place it in a buttered baking dish, smear with melted butter and place a second sheet on top, and every 3 sheets sprinkle filling. Repeat this process until you run out of the products.

The top needs to be covered with a solid crust to look nice - I put 2 sheets, cut to the diameter of the baking dish - 11″ (28 cm).

Start cutting with a sharp knife. First through the middle horizontally and vertically, then look at the image provided, since it is too complicated to explain. Smear lightly with butter on top and in the cuts. Bake in a preheated 340°F (170 °C) oven for about 35 minutes until reddened.

Boil the syrup for 5 minutes and cool it prior to use. Pour it over the baklava and leave it to soak, preferably overnight. HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
