"Yes we know frying is unhealthy but you`ve never tried donuts this delicious before."

Ingredients

  • flour - 1 2/3 cups (400 g) (or as much as it absorbs)
  • eggs - 1
  • butter - 1/3 cup (80 g)
  • baking powder - 1 packet
  • powdered sugar - 3 tbsp + some for sprinkling
  • water - cool, 1 cup
  • orange zest
  • oil - for frying
measures

How to make

Beat the egg with the water, add the softened butter and orange zest. Sift the flour with the powdered sugar and baking powder.

Carefully mix the 2 mixtures and knead a soft dough. Cover it with foil and leave it in the fridge for about 30 min.

Shape the ready dough into a roll. Cut it into small pieces. Shape the small pieces into round donuts, while also making a hole in the middle.

Fry them in heated oil. Drain from the oil onto paper towels and sprinkle with powdered sugar. You can also pour a suitable syrup over them.

Chebakia is actually not a Moroccan donut. Chebakia is a honey and sesame seed pastry made of spiced dough. Moroccan donuts are called sfenj, or bambalouni in Tunisia. They are also called beignet in French :)
