Ingredients

  • flour - 2 lb (1 kg)
  • water - 2 cups, warm
  • yeast - 1/2 cube
  • sugar - 2 tbsp
  • salt - 1 tbsp
  • oil - for smearing
  • butter - for smearing
  • eggs - 1 yolk

Preparation

Put 1 cup warm water, the fresh yeast and sugar in a bowl. Stir with a spoon until the yeast dissolves and leave it to bubble for about 10 min.

Then add the remaining warm water and salt. Start pouring in a little of the flour at a time until you obtain a dough. Smear it with oil and leave it in a warm area to rise.

Then roll out a sheet and cut the lower half into strips. Weave the strips together in pairs.

Roll up the upper half into a roll and wind the woven strips all about it.

Wrap everything into a spiral pattern and place the loaf in an oiled tray. Smear the top with egg yolk and bake at 356°F (180 °C) until ready. Once it's ready, take it out and smear with melted butter.find similar recipes here
