Rice is a staple food for more than half of the world's population.
No matter what dish you prepare, the first step is to have the rice thoroughly cleaned and washed.
Pour the rice into a suitable container and inspect it for debris and dark rice grains. If there are any, remove them.
You need to wash the rice under running water, while stirring it lightly with one hand. As a rule, the rice is washed with 3 to 5 waters until the liquid is completely clear.
This way the starch that was stuck to the grains is washed. This is also the secret to rice grains not sticking in the dishes, instead you get fluffy white rice with grains that are separated from each other.
If you have time before you start cooking, you can soak the rice in cold water for an hour or two.
Here it is important to note that there is an exception and that is in the preparation of risotto. For it, starch is one of the secrets for its successful preparation. To avoid failure when preparing risotto, wash the rice only once.
