Potatoes provide many nutrients to our daily menu. When boiled, we can use them as a garnish to a dish or for a potato salad. It is not difficult to boil a potato and you probably do it the same way every time. Next time you can try another way, for there is more than one way to boil potatoes. And here they are:
1. Boiling young potatoes
Wash the potatoes carefully without peeling them. Put a pot with water on the stove and add a pinch of salt. Drop the potatoes in once the water comes to a boil and close the pot. Once the water with the potatoes is boiling, let the pot simmer on low heat for 10 to 15 min. or until the potatoes soften. Remove them from the stove and drain out the water. Then serve.
2. Boiling older potatoes
Clean the potatoes well. Pour cold water in a pot, put the potatoes in and place on the stove. Do not cover with a lid. Once the water comes to a boil, let the potatoes cook for 15 to 25 min. on low heat. Keep in mind that it might take old potatoes 40 min. to cook. After they are ready, remove them from the stove and drain them. You can use them for a potato salad or something else.
3. Boiling potatoes with mint
Some folks like potatoes with mint - these are usually fans of lamb with potatoes. Fill 3/4 of a pot with cold water. Sprinkle salt and add 1 fresh bunch of mint. Add in the potatoes and let them come to a boil, then simmer for 15 to 20 min. Drain in a colander and remove the mint. Finally, put in some butter or olive oil.
4. Potatoes in the microwave
Clean the potatoes well without peeling them. Place them in a wide, microwave-safe bowl and pour in 1 1/2 tablespoons of water. Cover the bowl with a suitable material for a microwave. Leave them in the microwave at maximum temperature until they soften. Stir once during cooking. Wait 5 min. before serving.
5. Flour-like potatoes
Peel and dice the potatoes. Fill up a pot with cold water and throw in the potatoes. Let them come to a boil and then simmer for 15 to 20 min. Drain with a colander.
