Watermelons contain between 50 and 100 times more lycopene than tomatoes. As you may know, lycopene is a powerful antioxidant and provides tomatoes, watermelons and other fruits and vegetables with their red color.
Delicious watermelon is one of the fruits that successfully saves us during the summer months. Healthy eating does not allow for a watermelon to be mixed with other products.
There are many people who love the unusual combinations of sweet and salty. Nowadays, many such recipes can be found in the culinary arts, where both tastes are mixed - vegetables find a place among sweets, while some fruits are served as a main course.
Fruits can also be combined with something salty - the combination of watermelon and meat fillet is quite remarkable. However, this will most likely be appreciated only by those who enjoy more unique combinations in general.
You can make a wondrous summer salad for your mastika. You will need a watermelon - the sweeter the better, a handful of green olives and hard cheese. Cut up a large piece of watermelon into cubes, then add the cheese to it, which you have cut to the same size.
Finally, sprinkle it with the olives, having removed their pits. Optionally, you can sprinkle the salad with olive oil, stir carefully and put it in the fridge to cool nicely.
You can make another delicious salad with goat cheese, watermelon and a bit of arugula - make the salad in the same manner, cutting up the ingredients and mixing them in a bowl. Optionally, you can season with just a little bit of dried basil, besides the olive oil. If you're not a fan of goat cheese, use feta for example.
The next proposal is also curious - the so-called watermelon gazpacho. In a bowl, place 1 cup orange juice, 1 cucumber, 1 green pepper, a small onion head and a clove of garlic. In another container, add about 5.5 oz (150 g) of watermelon and just a tiny bit of basil for flavor, as well as olive oil - blend everything together.
Then add in the other products and blend until you get a puree. At the end, add some salt and black pepper. Consume this soup chilled.
You can also grill pieces of watermelon - to do this you will need skewers, in order to put 2 pieces on each. Put them on the grill - about 3 min. on each side.
Meanwhile, in a bowl, prepare 1 tablespoon honey, 4/5 cup (200 g) cream cheese, lemon juice and zest, a very little bit of salt, a few spoons of olive oil. Distribute the mixture into bowls and place a watermelon skewer next to each one.
Our last proposal is for the classic combination of watermelon and prosciutto - cut the watermelon into small bites, wrap them in pieces of sausage and top with a cocktail stick.
