When taking iodine, one must also be careful with the amount. During overdose, the thyroid gland may become increasingly overactive, which is dangerous if the person already has hypothyroidism.
The products taken need be combined with various vitamin complexes and kelp - a food supplement based on brown seaweed. Here it must also be mentioned that excessive use with iodine is not recommended for people with autoimmune diseases of the thyroid, such as Hashimoto's thyroiditis.
Numerous doctors, however, advise against eating raw cruciferous vegetables if you have hypothyroidism. At the same time, it is claimed that consuming broccoli, cabbage and spinach help raise the levels of glutathione in order to help restore the function of the thyroid.
The best advice is to consume cruciferous vegetables raw, boiled or in juice form. Ultimately, the number of studies supporting the consumption of cruciferous vegetables for prevention of thyroid cancer is much higher than the number against.
Among the other foods that are good for the thyroid are the Brazil nut, sea vegetables, chlorophyll and maca. Avoid soy protein isolate - especially soy cheese, soy yoghurt, energy bars with soy protein isolate, soy burgers and soy meat. If you are suffering from Hashimoto's thyroiditis, you need to avoid gluten. It stimulates the production of thyroid antibodies.
