  • bread - 17 oz (500 g) old
  • milk - 2 1/2 cups (600 ml.)
  • sugar - 2/3 cup (160 g)
  • eggs - 3 large (4 small)
  • cinnamon - about 1 tsp
  • vanilla - 2 powders
  • apples - 2 large
  • raisins
  • nuts - optional
  • powdered sugar

Cut the bread into thin slices and pour the milk over them. Leave them to stand for half an hour and mix. Separate the yolks from the whites and beat the egg yolks with half the sugar. You're going to get a smooth cream to add to the bread.

Peel the apples, cut them into cubes and mix them with the cinnamon. Add them to the mix along with some raisins and vanilla. Separately, beat the egg whites with a pinch of salt and the remaining sugar, then gently mix them with the remaining mixture.

Place the mixture into a greased baking dish, and now is the time to sprinkle on some chopped nuts if you want. Put this to bake in a preheated oven at 374°F (190 °C). Baking takes approximately 40 minutes, but it depends on the oven.

Sprinkle the ready cake with powdered sugar. Serve it cooled, sliced and garnished with fruit of your choice.
