Lay out a form with baking paper and gently grease it. Preheat the oven to 356°F (180 °C). Wash the cherries, remove the pits and let them dry out from the moisture, then mix them with 1-2 tablespoons breadcrumbs. Beat the butter and sugar until creamy and add the eggs one at a time, constantly whipping.
Beat the mixture for about 5 minutes and add the cream / milk, vanilla, juice and rind of the orange and gradually the sifted flour with baking powder and baking soda. Finally, stir with a wooden spoon until you get a smooth mixture. Pour it into the form and arrange the cherries on top, push some of them in to sink, while leaving others on the surface.
Put the cake with cherries to bake for 30-40 minutes. Let the finished cake cool and remove it from the form, carefully removing the paper. This unique and delicious fresh cake can be served sprinkled with powdered sugar and cinnamon.
