The peeled potatoes are cut into small pieces and boiled with a little salt. When ready, drain and transfer them to a bowl. Mash, add butter, warm milk and finely chopped onions that have been rubbed with salt. At the bottom of a shallow dish with a diameter of 9″ (23 cm), spread half of the mashed potatoes.
On top of the cooled potato layer distribute the Russian salad, and put the rest of the mash on top, which you will smooth out using a knife. Spread mayonnaise on the entire cake, grate the cheese. Decorate with sausage, cheese, pickles or olives.
Cool for 30 - 40 minutes before eating. The given ingredients produce 8 servings.
