Peel the apples, remove their cores and cut them into thin slices. Boil 1 tablespoon of sugar in 2/5 cup (100 ml) of water. In thus obtained syrup, sauté the apples.
Coat a fireproof container with butter and arrange the apples on the bottom. Pour the mixture on top. Bake the cake on low heat for 45 min.
Serve cold with vanilla sauce.
