Potato Rösti

  • potatoes - 2 lb (1 kg)
  • corn flour - 2 tablespoons
  • eggs - 1 large
  • onions - 1 head, shredded
  • salt - 1 tsp
  • black pepper - 1 tsp
  • nutmeg - to taste
  • oil - for frying


Wash the potatoes and put them to boil until half-cooked for about 10-15 minutes. Then drain them, wait to cool, peel them and grate on a grater. Mix them with the corn flour, egg, grated onion and spices in a bowl.

Add a little crumbled feta cheese or finely chopped bacon, if desired. Mix well. Heat oil in a pan, put in a round or other form and fill it with the mixture. Press down toward the bottom well and then fry the other side as well.

Another option is to make a whole piece, by spreading the whole mixture on the bottom of a pan, pressing it well, smoothing and braising it under a lid for 6-7 minutes, until golden brown.

Then, using a large plate, flip the rösti over and fry until golden on the other side.
