Chicken with Sauerkraut and Onions

  • chickens - 1 whole, about 2.5 lb (1.2 kg)
  • sauerkraut - 1 large
  • onions - 1 head, large
  • carrots - 1
  • butter - 4/5 cup (200 g), or use oil
  • paprika
  • black pepper
  • salt
  • parsley - to taste


Clean the chicken, season it with salt and pepper to taste and put it to bake in greased tray. Once it's half cooked and reddened, remove it and then fry the chopped onions and carrots in the same tray.

Then add chopped sauerkraut, season it with all the spices and stir. Put the chicken on top, pour in a little hot water or chicken broth, wrap the tray with foil and bake for a little more than half an hour.

Then remove it from the foil and bake it for a few more minutes. Optionally, you can shred the chicken and debone it, before putting it to bake with the sauerkraut.
