  • chicken - 1, with the giblets
  • sauerkraut - 1 whole, small
  • carrots - 1
  • salt - to taste
  • black pepper - to taste
  • paprika - 1 tsp
  • oil - about 2/5 cup (100 ml)
  • savory - 1 tsp
  • caraway - 1/2 tsp, crushed

Clean the chicken and rub it with a little salt and black pepper. Heat a little oil in a pan and fry the giblets. Once braised, remove and chop them. Add some oil to the same pan and fry the finely chopped or grated carrot. Throw in the giblets and season with a little salt and paprika.

Add the chopped sauerkraut and mix. Put a lid on and leave it to stew lightly. Then add more salt and black pepper, savory and caraway. The sauerkraut is transferred into a greased pan and topped with the whole or portioned chicken. Bake in a pre-heated moderate oven until the chicken is ready.

Optionally, you can pour in some sauerkraut juice to the tray.
