German Christmas Sweets
- flour - 1 2/3 cups (400 g)
- butter - 4/5 cup (200 g)
- eggs - 3, just the yolks
- sugar - 2/5 cup (100 g)
- lemon zest - of 1 lemon
- vanilla - 2 packets
- walnuts - 3 1/3 tbsp (50 g), ground
- jam - 1/2 cup
- powdered sugar - 1/2 cup
Combine the butter with the flour until you get a crumbly dough. Add the egg yolks, sugar, vanilla, lemon zest and ground walnuts and knead a smooth dough. Cover with plastic wrap and leave in the fridge for 2 hours.
Then divide the dough into several parts. Roll out each one into a sheet and cut out an even number of stars using cookie cutters.
In the middle of half of them, cut out a circle. Bake the sweets in a preheated 356°F (180 °C) oven for about 10 min.
Smear all of the sweets with jam and stick those with the cut out circle on top. Sprinkle the ready sweets with powdered sugar.
