Smear an oven dish with butter. Smear each slice of bread thinly with butter and arrange in the oven dish next to each other. Sprinkle with a layer of grated cheese on top.
Bake in a preheated 356°F (180 °C) oven for 5 min. on the top and bottom elements. Then crisp on top only for 10 min. for the eggs to harden. If needed, cover with aluminum foil so they don't burn.
