Separate the egg whites from the yolks. Use a mixer to beat the egg whites to a fluffy snow with a pinch of salt. To the bowl with the yolks, add the sugar and beat to a thick cream.
Subsequently add the milk, orange juice, orange zest and vanilla sugar.
Add the premixed semolina, flour and baking powder.
Add the beaten whites to the mixture and use a spatula to stir the 2 mixtures slowly and carefully until they form a fluffy mixture.
Pour the mixture into a rectangular oven dish that you've smeared with soft butter. Bake in a preheated 338°F (170 °C) oven until ready. Leave the cake layer to cool.
Make the syrup by combining all the ingredients for it. Keep boiling 5 min. after boiling point.
Use a ladle to pour the hot syrup evenly over the layer. Cover the oven dish with foil and leave it until it cools.
Sprinkle with coconut flakes.
