"I`m sitting here looking at this incredible loaf and asking myself - could the Mayan calendar simply have been a recipe for a sunny round loaf?"

Ingredients

  • flour - about 3 cups (700 g)
  • yeast - 1 1/3 tbsp (20 g)
  • yoghurt - 4/5 cup (200 g)
  • milk - 2/3 cup (150 ml) warm
  • oil - 2 tablespoons
  • salt - 1 tsp
  • sugar - 1 tsp
  • eggs - 2 + 1 for smearing

How to cook

Knead a soft dough from the products listed. Leave it to rise and divide it into several parts - 1 large and 7 smaller balls. Roll out each of the small ones into a rectangle, smear with oil and wrap into a roll.

Cut each of the rolls in 2 diagonally. Do this for all of the small balls of dough. Arrange them in a circle in an oiled tray.

Roll out the large ball into a rectangle and cut it into 3 pieces. Wrap them subsequently into a spiral. Place it upright in the middle of the loaf.

Leave it to rise for 30 min., smear with the beaten egg and bake at 390°F (200 °C). Take it out of the oven and smear with butter.
