Season the steaks by sprinkling them with all the spices, sauce and a little oil. Let them sit for about 2 hours.
Braise in the oil until they crisp well.
Put 1/2 the chopped onions and mushrooms at the bottom of a glass cook pot, then arrange the steaks, the other 1/2 of the vegetables and pour on the rest of the oil from the braising of the steaks.
Pour in 1/2 cup water and bake at 392°F (200 °C) for 2 hours.
