Cook the potatoes, peel and cut them into circles. Using cookie cutter forms, cut them into interesting shapes to your liking.
Cut the herring into pieces, cut the red onion into very thin slices, then separate them.
Beat the vinegar and oil together with the ground to powder allspice and cloves. Pour this dressing over everything mixed in the bowl.
Optionally, add salt and serve the salad in bowls, decorated with sprigs of dill.
