Ingredients

  • phyllo pastry - 8 oz (225 g) sheets
  • almonds - 4/5 cup (175 g)
  • walnuts - 4/5 cup (175 g)
  • butter - 1/3 cup (90 g)
  • cinnamon - 1 tbsp
  • cloves - 1/2 tsp ground
  • sugar - 2 cups (500 g)
  • water - 1 1/2 cups
  • vanilla - 1/2 stick
  • lemon juice - 2 tbsp

Preparation

Prepare a mixture of mashed walnuts, almonds and cinnamon.

Coat the baking pan with oil. At the bottom, put a phyllo pastry sheet, smear it with butter and place the next sheet on it.

Once you have laid on three phyllo pastry sheets, smear with part of the prepared mixture of walnuts, almonds and cinnamon.

Repeat this procedure every three sheets. Cover with the last phyllo pastry sheet. Smear it with butter and cut it into diamond shapes.

In the middle of each diamond, put a pinch of ground cloves. In a preheated to 320°F (160 °C) oven, bake for about 1 hour.

Combine the water, sugar, vanilla and lemon juice. Boil on low heat to thicken the syrup. Remove the cinnamon stick. Once the baklava has cooled, pour the syrup over it.
